An unsuspected side effect of changing my diet to plant based, was the sudden realisation I had that connected me to Mother Nature and the planet. Bare with me! Basically, I started to feel more responsible for what happens to our planet, so I am trying now to live with a bit more consideration to what my lifestyle does for the good (or bad!) of the Earth.
So, I am doing several things to reduce my footprint including buying and using less single use items, for example cotton pads. As a lover of makeup (but also my skin), I used a lot of cotton pads to make sure I was cleansed and clean day in day out.
It was a match made in eco heaven when Net Zero Co offered to send me some reusable bamboo cotton pads for review. Bamboo is naturally sustainable, it grows back quickly after being cut down and requires very little if any help to grow. This means it is more sustainable, and when it is made in to fibres for use in items like this, it has much less of an impact on the environment than cotton or synthetic fibres. You can read below, some issues about cotton production.
Cotton isn’t eco.
WWF say the processing of cotton uses so much water, it is likely to be the “largest user of water among all agricultural commodities”, and the pesticides used during cotton production has had severe impacts on some of the biggest eco systems. Seeing the damage that climate change (caused by these two issues amongst others), is shocking and touching me more than ever, I want to make the switch. Global cotton production releases 220 Metric Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide every year, think of the koalas people! I sobbed when I seen the video of the koala crying as he was being rescued from the Australia bush fires.
Well, I am a convert! Aside from the environmental impact these pads have, they’ve worked wonders for my skin. Do you ever find yourself repeatedly dragging at your face with cotton pad after cotton pad trying to remove that last bit of makeup? I used to, and I’d wonder how haggard it was making me, not to mention how tiresome it was using up to 10 cotton pads (no lie!) to remove a full face of makeup. I don’t know why, but these remove makeup much quicker and easier than cotton pads, I can get a full face of makeup off using only three pads.
If it’s a no makeup cleanse, these are a proper little treat for my skin “The secret lies in the double-sided design that features a terry side for scrubbing and a velour side for more gentle removal. Simply add your favorite cleanser, makeup remover, or micellar water and gently buff to remove any and all makeup instantly!” I love the scrubby side as it is not too abrasive, but gets rid of dead skin and texture gently, and the smooth side is like silk it really glides over my skin. They even come with a cute travel pouch and a wash bag! A great little investment, you could wash these over and over whilst feeling great about your skin, and feel good about your choices too 🙂
