Is it still taboo to talk about period care so openly? Na, I say HERE WE FLO! Specifically, to Flo, the latest brand of sustainable, clean, organic and just CUTE AF period care. I attended a women’s event recently, Flo had a stand there and gave out samples of their products, so I wanted to review them here.
The Brand
Flo femcare are an independent brand offering organic, vegan and cruelty free period products. “cheeky + conscious babes on a mission to create healthier, eco-friendlier products that are affordable, accessible and adorable. Call us high-maintenance, but we believe that what we put in our bodies should be as natural as possible and not horrible for the planet. We also prefer our products like our partners: good-looking, straight-talking and reliable. And if we can give back to our community at the same time? FLO-tastic.”
How fantastic does that sound? Sounds great to me, and if that doesn’t convince you to try out Flo what about this?
“Natural, plant-based, biodegradable and hypoallergenic materials like organic cotton and bamboo, comfort (silkiness, breathability!), performance (no leaks, please!), cheekiness (more sass, please!), enthusiasm (we are a little bit extra!), social justice: 5% of our profits go to charities like Orchid Project, who work to end female genital cutting (FGM). We also donate menstrual products to fight period poverty in the UK through organisations like St. Mungo’s and Bloody Good Period, who provide for refugees, asylum seekers and the homeless. Finally, all our products are certified vegan & cruelty-free by The Vegetarian Society and PETA, Babe-Power (you’re a total babe, and we believe in the power of you!)”
Also, you want to see their Instagram feed! It’s positive, punchy, SO HECKING PINK AND BRIGHT. It’s like all the girl power of Mean Girls, Legally Blonde and Beyoncé combined.
The Review
TMI incoming: I am a tampon-phobe. Didn’t used to be, until I got the coil. I’ll spare you the details of my fanny fear, and skip to telling you I tried the Flo tampon, and I didn’t vomit or cry. The packaging and applicator are very similar to a Tampax in the hard shell, by looking at it, it appeared thicker and wider than about a super Tampax. It inserted really easily and wore more comfortable than any other tampon I’ve ever used. Because I spent the day at home, and for purpose of review, I left the tampon in as long as possible. On my heaviest day I had 4.5 hours wear before I started to leak slightly. It came out easily and comfortably, without that sort of “over swell” other tampons can do, where it feels horrid coming out.
No complaints here, the pads are massive, not thick or lumpy but very long and very smooth. No VPL for Flo-Goers woo! The best bit about the pads are definitely the wings, they’re very long as in almost the length of the whole pad, so they’re very secure on your underwear, I really liked this as it just felt so much more secure, there’s always a worry you’ll come unstuck but not with these. I found the pad to be super absorbent, it would be great to sleep in, it even kind of absorbed the smell a bit if that makes sense.
I’ll purchase these, and if you’d like to you can shop Here We Flo here. If this was too much for you then, sorry not sorry cos I am….
Eco Friendly Non Toxic Reusable Sanitary Pads Review
Amy x
Great review, and so glad you’ve found something that works for you! I changed about a year ago to reusable pads, also being a bit of a tampon-phobe, and tbh I love them just not in the summer! So will have a look at Flo for those warmer months.
